
Gateway students in the Logistics industry
The Gateway Programme is a new government initiative involving secondary schools in Year 12 to Year 13 attending work placement in local businesses.
The students that get involved get gain skills; have a better understanding of work and social skills from being in the workforce. The students also get the opportunity to achieve Level 2/3 unit standards, being assessed in the workplace and their achievements are credited towards the National Certificate of Achievement (NCEA) gaining an average of 14 plus credits a placement.
The placements are Aviation, Flight attending, Oasis McDonalds (Hospitality), The Warehouse Retail (Airport/Manukau/Manukau, Sylvia Park branches), National bank (Airport), Mangere Law Centre, Manpower Automotive Ltd., Rydlers Customs & Forwarding, Housing NZ Corporation, Habitat for Humanity (Building), Kennedine Rest home, Hutton Rest home, 3 D Animation Lifeway, R & H General Engineering Papatoetoe, Temperzone Air conditioning, Scaffolding & Height industries, The Florist Mangere Bridge, Social Work, Mecure Hotel, Foodstuffs, Toll Logistics (Freight), Beauty Therapy and Police Recruiting Greenlane branch.
I thank these industries for giving our students a valuable opportunity to experience the real workplace and will continue to give our students in 2012.
