Confidence and teamwork activity
Aorere College has been extremely fortunate to have the support of the Perry Foundation over the past few years to help support our school’s Outdoor Education programme.
The mission of the Perry Foundation’s Outdoor Education programme is to provide outdoor education opportunities for teenagers to learn personal, social and physical skills; be challenged and encouraged to develop self-esteem, values and resilience; and be confident in applying these qualities in making positive choices in their future.
This year every Year 9 and 10 student had the opportunity to go on a three day camp with their tutor class at a very low cost. There were 8 camps in total, all held in Term One at Kokako Lodge in the Hunua Ranges. Senior Outdoor Education students also attended the junior camps and helped lead many of the activities which included low ropes and high ropes courses, trust activities, team challenges, an amazing race and an evening talent quest.
The benefits of these camps are tremendous. Not only do the students have an amazing experience in the outdoors but they also get to know their classmates and other students in their year level. They also get to see a different side to their teachers in the outdoors!
It is experiences like these that Aorere College students will never forget!
