Biology – BIO201 - Year 12
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course extends the knowledge and concepts from previous years’ Science courses. In studying Biology students will investigate and develop an understanding of Biology as an applied science. Students will learn about the inter-relationships of living organisms and their interaction with the abiotic environment; genetics and evolution; interaction between humans and their environment, and how these are influenced by developments in biological knowledge and technology. The highlights of the course include investigations, research and field trips.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
16 credits gained in Level 1 Science including passes in 90930 Carry out a practical science investigation with direction and 90948: demonstrate understanding of biological ideas relating to genetic variation. COURSE LEADS TO Level 3 Biology; Level 3 Science

Biology – BIO301 - Year 13
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Level 3 Biology extends the knowledge and concepts learned in the Level 2 Biology course. Students will learn about cellular biology, human evolution, genetics, biotechnology and the behaviour of organisms. The highlights of the course include independent research, experimentations with guidance, and field trips. There is an opportunity to work alongside scientists doing research at the Liggins Institute which is an Institute of The University of Auckland.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
15 credits in Level 2 Biology, at least 9 of these credits must be from internally assessed standards and at least seven of these credits from externally assessed standards, or HOD discretion.
COURSE LEADS TO
Tertiary study in fields such as biological sciences, veterinary science, optometry, medicine, horticulture, agriculture, nursing, occupational therapy and so much more.
