English Language Support – 10ELS - Year 10
This course helps students with English language learning. Students will study topics from different subject areas. They will practise their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Students in this course have generally been new arrivals to New Zealand in the last 5 years. Entry to this course is based on need and at HOD discretion.
English Language Support – ELS101 - Year 11
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This is a language based programme especially designed for the language needs of ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) / NESB (Non-English Speaking Background) students. Students will learn intercommunication skills in written and spoken English, and they will complete topic studies to support their learning across curriculum areas. They will be assessed on reading, writing, speaking and listening. * In 2011 this subject will run during two option lines and will provide both English and English Language programme.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Teachers will recommend students for this course, based on an analysis of their English language needs. This may include: · Students who have recently arrived into New Zealand with language learning needs · Students who may have been in New Zealand for up to five years but still need English language support · Students who may need a settling period in a New Zealand school.

Level 2 English Language Support. In 2011 this subject will run during two option lines and will provide both English and an English Language Programme.

Students will learn intercommunication skills in written and spoken English, and they will complete topic studies to support their learning across curriculum areas.
