Literacy Centre
Want extra help and support? This is where you come!
The Learning Centre works on an ‘inclusive’ model whereby it responds to the individual needs of the student. It is intended to be a very flexible support for students who may require additional help over and above that already within a mainstream classroom.
Students may be referred to the department by teaching staff or by the student “self –referring” where he or she recognises that they need some additional assistance.
Every student accepted into the department helps plan their own Individual Learning Programme as all students attending the department work on individual programmes to assist with their particular need. Some students may require a short, intensive period of support for one particular problem whilst others may require an extended period of support. All students remain in touch with their mainstream class as they are expected to return to that class as and when they are ready to do so. Senior students may request permission to “drop” an option subject to create time to work on their particular need. This is always done in consultation with the subject teacher, the Dean and the parents.
