“You cannot hope to build a better world without improving the individuals. To that end, each of us must work for our own improvement and, at the same time, share a general responsibility for all humanity, our particular duty being to aid those to whom we think can be most useful.” (Marie Curie)

Have you ever wondered why things happen? Why is our world the way it is? Curious? Are you at a loss for answers? Science can provide the answers.

Science is important for several reasons. Some of those reasons are: practical, and others that relate more to the needs of humans.  Practically Science is important because Science leads to discoveries and new knowledge which in turn supports the economic growth of countries. If you look around, you will notice the vast number of electronic gadgets available to us and this has been made possible due to our understanding of quantum physics. The electronics industry produces billions of dollars and thus supports economic growth. However, it is not only this industry, but information about global warming, stem cell research, genetic engineering, metallurgy, nuclear energy and biodiversity, all contributes towards our learning and in becoming informed citizens and leaders.  These reasons are related to practical and human needs, but let us look at Science from a different perspective. Science affects us on a personal level as well. Is there anyone who is not emotionally moved by mysteries of Science, the wonders of nature: when you see the babies being born, conjoint twins separated, comets, shooting stars, nuclear explosions, chemical and biological warfare, and many more that leaves us to imagine, explore and wonder.

The movie, showing solar storm engulfing our planet released today during a NASA press conference, has galvanized solar physicists...The movie sent chills down my spine,” says Craig DeForest of the Southwest Researcher Institute in Boulder, Colorado. “

A person who lacks the ability to ask questions and wonder about the mysteries of Science must be intellectually numb, if not dead.

So, the Aorere College Science Department endeavours to develop the curiosity of students in the wonders of Science through their vast array of subjects and topics.
