Sports Studies – 10SPS - Year 10

This course provides students with the opportunity to develop the necessary skills needed for SPS101 and PED101. Students will learn about human anatomy, principles of training and the effect of fitness on the body. They will use a variety of different self management strategies to improve their performance in a variety of team and individual sports. Assessments throughout the year will consist of a team sport assignment, mid year exam and a written report. Students who excel in this subject will gain entry into PED101.

Sports Studies – SPS101 - Year 11

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course gives students the opportunity to develop as both individual and team sports players. Students who take this course will develop communication skills, and learn about team and individual sports, sport fitness, nutrition, fair play, the Code of Conduct, how the body responds to exercise and how the human body works. This course is practically based and will suit students who are interested in sport and recreation.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

None Physical Education teachers can advise students of the most appropriate Physical Education / Sports course for them, based on Year 10 Physical Education / Sports Studies grades achieved. Students who take this course cannot also take Year 11 Physical Education.

Sports Studies – SPS201 - Year 12

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Students will learn to develop their goal setting, physical and communication skills and management strategies. They will identify and experience a range of leadership roles within the sporting environment.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

9 Level 1 Physical Education or Sports Studies credits. Students who take this course can also take Level 2 Outdoor education. Students who take this course cannot take Level 2 Physical Education.

Sports Studies – SPS301 - Year 13

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Sport Studies students gain confidence, learn about competition, develop goal setting and learning strategies, develop communication skills, move outside their comfort zone, develop management strategies and experience a range of leadership roles within the sporting environment.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

8 Level 2 credits in Year 12 Sports Studies or HOD discretion. Students who take this course cannot also take Level 3 Physical Education. Students who take this course can also take 13 Outdoor Education.

Tertiary study and/or career paths in recreation, outdoor recreation and sports
