Wow, I can't swim properly. Gabby, Fili and I swimming in front of the teacher was a little embarrassing. Although, it was ok as we were all terrible together. Then finally the time came... It was time for a relay race and we had to swim separately. We split into two teams with Fili and myself being on the same team. Personally, I really didn't want to let my team down. Because of this when it was my turn, I tried to swim as fast as I could. Even though I felt like I was drowning, I made it across and my team won. Fili and I were so relieved but also couldn't stop apologising to our team for how terrible we were. There are no club activities on Wednesdays so Junna and myself went home early. I spent the rest of the night looking through my host brothers soccer team photos and listening to Junna play the piano.
A day I'll never forget!

After school Jishukan attends clubs which end at around 6 pm. I will attend Junna's club which is badminton. Thankfully there was no badminton today, so we were able to go home at 4:30 pm.
However, even though it was a short day for Junna it felt like a long day for me. Something that I struggle with the most is eating. During school, they only have 1 break (lunch), and they cannot eat any other time. Because of this me as well as the other students are so hungry during some of the lessons. But even though its hot and I'm hungry, I love being here and I really don't want to leave.
Dear God, tomorrow when we leave for Japan, please bless me as well as the other students with a safe trip; in Jesus name I pray, Amen.
Tomorrow at 8:55 am I will be leaving New Zealand and going the furthest I’ve ever been from my family and home. For the past week I’ve been excited, but at this moment, I can’t stop the nerves. After packing my bags, it’s now hit me how soon I’ll be leaving. Nevertheless, I’m ready to meet Junna and learn as much Japanese culture as I can. After 10 weeks of preparation, I can’t believe this day is finally here. I feel greatful and ready for this little kiwi to go to Japan!
Less than 2 weeks from now (on the 5th of July) I'll be heading to Japan. Am I excited? That's undetermined. However, I feel grateful for the opportunity. |

I've also been attending weekly Exchange Preparation classes with Mr Ali. During these lessons we’ve discussed culture shock, money, going to the toilet, sleeping of futons and don’t even get me started on Onsen! In Jishukan High School, I will be taking subjects that aren't offered at Aorere College like Swimming and Judo. I think it's strange to have those as subjects, but I'm willing to try.
The best part of these lessons was learning about my buddy and host family.
Meet Junna. She's 15 years old, loves music and lives with her parents and older brother. I know we'll teach each other a lot and I'm excited to meet her family. |
