Tiki Tour in Tokyo~

After resting up our energy levels were hyped despite the humidity. We had a nice breakfast, got a little lost but looked good doing it. We're meeting our host families later on today and I have to admit I was feeling really nervous living  with people I haven't even met before and knowing communication is going to be a problem. I knew I wasn't the only one feeling this way we all had the preparation but none of us knew what to truly expect... On the positive note at least I’ll be going to the right house.

Two weeks in a country that I've always wanted to travel to. I hope to make life time friends, family and memories while I'm on this trip

First Day in Japan~

After we made it through Narita airport in Japan. I was still feeling excited after the long flight but I was really tired and hot all I wanted at that moment was some nice food, a cold shower and some sleep. Of course things don't go to plan when we need it to. We spent quite a few hours going up flights of stairs and it started to get dark before we knew it.

We made it into Takadanobaba and looked for our house that was supposed to be close to the station, but like I said earlier things don't always go to plan so we ended up wandering around for another couple of hours because the house was 15 minutes from the station... in the other direction. When we did end up making it to "our" house  it ended up being an old man's apartment who seemed quite nice... if he hadn't been disturbed so late at night making him ever so politely yell "Nani?!!!" scaring us away and confirming that was not the place we were resting for the night.

We eventually made it to our actual house that was a couple blocks away from the old man's apartment and our first meal/dinner in Japan was at a convenience store. The house that we all looked forward to resting in and sleeping in our own beds ended up being an apartment on top of the fancy place we had dinner at was a small lounge with two beds in, two couches  and another  room with two mattresses. NICE!!

What a interesting way to start our trip in Japan, surely it will get better from here...... right?

こんにちは!
I’ve officially finished my Japanese classes. I have really enjoyed learning the Japanese culture and language, though I am clearly not fluent I have enjoyed the experience. I can't wait to go to Japan to see it for myself though I hope they do know english or I might not be that talkative, maybe my teacher would appreciate that. Over the 8 weeks we have our increased understanding about Japan and familiarize ourselves with Japanese customs. I guess the test will be to see how much I can understand while I’m in Japan.

Dinner at Novotel Hotel~

What's better then going to Japan?! Going to Japan and having a delicious dinner in a fancy hotel. The dinner was nice but I also felt slightly out of place not being used to going to places like that. Over all though I really enjoyed meeting our sponsor Paul Columbus, getting to know the other five students who will share this amazing adventure with me and of course the food. During the few hours I had spent at Novotel I realised all six exchange students shared similar feelings of nervousness, excitement and anticipation of what is to come over the next few weeks.

Many of us haven't been so far away from home without family before so their may be many challenges ahead of us but I hope to make many happy memories in my journey around Japan taking on board the lessons, preparation and support I've had from the people around me. I want to go to many places but I already know there is no place like home.

Once again I would like to say a Thank you to Novotel Hotel, Paul Columbus and Aorere College for the amazing opportunities and the lessons you have taught and presented to us in preparation for our trip. I'm positive none of us will forget this life changing experience that awaits us.

Three things in life I learned if you want something is to have a strong determination, working hard and having a big imagination. The reason I say these three things are without determination you can’t work hard. Without working hard you can't get anywhere no matter how big the task is and last of all imagination, because your life will only be as big as you imagine it. I had a dream when I was younger which was to travel to a different country and now this dream is only 6 weeks away from becoming reality.

I'm starting to feel nervous but, I feel honored  to represent Aorere College in the cultural exchange with the students from Jishukan High school from Japan. I'm excited to go on the bullet trains and see a school different to my own. I am also looking forward to meeting new people, customs as well as learning a new language. I am grateful to the Sponsors and Aorere College for making this dream of mine a reality.
